It seemed like the author also included these incidents because they contained action and she realized up to this point we did not have much action. Things happened because we needed it to happen for the ending to work. It will not be easy and I thought this book handled the situation correctly. ![]() The older generation may be stubborn in their ways but the newer generation might be the resolution to the problem. What I liked about this half is that it mirrors real life and I enjoy when a fictional book does this without being pedantic. I enjoyed the first half as it was set up of the long running war and how peace might finally be achieved. This is one of those times when a book is a story of two halves. Do we take the chance on peace or does the faction that doesn't want peace thwart it? In this one two planets have been wagering war for a very long time. This is part of the High Republic series but this book can be used as an entry point to the series. The bar has been set super high with this first book, I can't wait for Phase Two to continue. I do not even mind if she emerges in the Phase One era. As well as her developing more of her two lightsaber fighting style. Yes, mainly, I am invested in Gella Nattai and want to see the continuation of her journey. I hope to see all of these characters again. Also, I like the way the High Republic era Jedi are more seekers of the Force and unsure of their paths or more willing to learn and accepting of new ideas, and if all else fails, there are other Forced based religions out there. Some overcome their pasts and prejudices to see the future, but there are others trapped in the past.įor the Jedi's part, I do like that there are more roles/paths for them to follow than just Knight or Master. I enjoyed seeing the characters come together. What happens when other parties within and outside the planets don't want to make that choice? The Republic sees this as an opportunity not only to forge a lasting peace but to bring these outer rim worlds into the Republic as well. ![]() Gella Nattai has jumped to the front of the line as my favourite Jedi in the High Republic era.Ī cease-fire has been called between the neighbouring but warring planets of Eiram and E'ronoh. This book has a great story and even better characters. This is a great start to Phase Two of the High Republic books, who are a prequel to Phase One. With accusations flying and potential enemies in every shadow, the pair will have to work together to have any hope of bringing the truth to light and saving both worlds. The harder they work to untangle the shadowy web of the investigation, the more complicated the conspiracy appears to be. She's never met such a puffed-up, privileged party boy, and he's never met a more self-serious, relentless do-gooder. To save both worlds, Jedi Knight Gella Nattai volunteers to uncover the culprit, while Chancellor Kyong appoints her own son, Axel Greylark, to represent the Republic's interests in the investigation.īut Axel's deep distrust of the Jedi sparks against Gella's faith in the Force. The last hope for peace emerges when heirs from the planets' royal families plan to marry.īefore lasting peace can be established, an assassination attempt targeting the couple tilts Eiram and E'ronoh back into all-out war. The two worlds' hatred for each other has fueled half a decade of escalating conflict and now threatens to consume surrounding systems. ![]() On the close-orbiting planets of Eiram and E'ronoh, the growing pains of a galaxy with limited resources but unlimited ambition are felt keenly. Meanwhile, the Republic, led by its two chancellors, works to unite worlds in an ever-growing community among near and distant stars. Jedi travel the galaxy, expanding their understanding of the Force and all the worlds and beings connected by it. The next adventure in the High Republic begins expanding the new era of Star Wars, with a story set generations before Light of the Jedi.
